From a 90-second video audition to three live on-air auditions Jump’s Greatest Gig on Earth has been so incredible I think it should’ve been a reality T.V. show. I’d say a mix between the Amazing Race and Survivor, except without travelling and eating large amounts of rice. BUT we did have diverse and challenging tasks…which I always completed while fueled with JUMP JUICE (which is cold black coffee).
In all seriousness, I have learned a TON during this competition. It was awesome to be challenged and be creative….and sometimes it was sticky (when I poured sugar on my head) or salty (the poutine eating contest at PoutineFest). I got to know my city better and the people within it through #JUMPforSens promotions to hunting down landmarks to impromptu interviews and paying it forward. I now feel at ease going up to strangers and asking random questions in the name of #JUMPTeamVeeNella.
Finally I have to give a shout-out to all the people involved in this competition from the Jump Ottawa staff to the #Top 30, 10, 5 and 3 candidates. The positivity and support has been wonderfully Canadian in its politeness, eh?
Check out these pictures and videos of my fave experiences from Jump’s Greatest Gig on Earth! Remember once you’re #JUMPTeamVeeNella you never go back!

My experience with the Greatest Gig has been phenomenal. So much love and support from the JUMP! 1069 team, fellow candidates, and the public. This is truly one of the most unique experiences a radio station can give to it’s listeners and a way of connecting to the community in a whole new way.
I want to be the morning show co-host with Tony because I can think of no better way to relate to and communicate with the public about issues that are personal and matter to everyone. I want to be a real and authentic voice that enhances and works in collaboration with a station that is already providing this.
Vanessa Cote Live With Tony Wednesday, May 6
Show #1: Thursday, April 23
Ummm can I just say best birthday ever at JUMP! 1069. Tony ragged on me a bit for showing up before him (haha) but we made it up with some sugary birthday donuts!
Despite not being able to sleep a wink the night before, the energy of Tony and his in-studio guidance eased my coffee and radio newbie jitters.
I had a blast talking about awesome and diverse subjects while getting some interesting calls, ‘is it a hotdog?’ and Visine in yogurt sabotage! Tony gave me some good advice on-air and we connected potential lovers through Missed Connections….#Sprayorstream!
My tips for radio newbies is wear extra deodorant, chase that coffee with water, and absorb all the knowledge you can from the pros.
Thanks so much to JUMP! 1069 for this fabulous opportunity to co-host on a show and station I love. How cool is JUMP! 1069?!
