You would think that remaking what is arguably the best movie about witches would be the sort of thing that would surely curse a person for life. But apparently someone at the Disney Channel isn’t afraid because they’ve decided to remake the 1993 Halloween classic Hocus Pocus as a TV movie.
A Hocus Pocus has been rumored to the in the works for years, but this isn’t the sequel we were all hoping for. According to Deadline, this “reimagining” of Hocus Pocus is happening because the film has achieved a bit of a cult status after repeat airings on the Disney Channel and they want to rejig it for a new generation, but it sounds like they’re changing everything!
The Disney Channel’s remake will have an entirely new cast and Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker aren’t expected to be in it. That’s a mistake. Hocus Pocus is nothing without those three!
Two years ago, Bette said she didn’t think they’d ever get a sequel off the ground. Quote, “After all these years and all the fan demand, I do believe I can stand and firmly say an unequivocal no.”
Honestly unless it’s a feature length sequel with the original cast, I am taking a hard pass on this! I mean the original has a talking cat, and a full two-minute-long performance of “I Put a Spell on You.” What more do we need?
Not to mention the fact that it’s a kids movie that features a triple hanging and a one-eyed spell book made of skin. Honestly, the original Hocus Pocus is perfect.
Don’t believe me? Watch:
I think it’s safe to say this epic GIF from the original sums up how Bette (and a lot of us) probably feel about this reboot!
