On September 8th, the Black Rapids Dairy Farm in Barrhaven experienced a fire that took 3 barns, and 80 cows from them.
The farm has been run by the Ruiter family for two generations (since 1962). Their insurance will cover some damage, but not all. The estimated damage is at over 1 million dollars. The Cleaning and tipping fees alone are over $100,000.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up below with a goal of $150 thousand, and is already at $20 thousand and climbing!
The community is coming together for the family.
Ottawa Fire Services have not released the cause of the fire. The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs and Office of the Fire Marshal are still investigating.
