Ottawa Senators Craig Anderson was the well deserving winner of the Bill Masterton Trophy on Wednesday night, at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas.
The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is presented to the player is awarded every year to the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey. Masterton is the only player in National Hockey League history to die as a direct result of injuries suffered during a game.
The obvious choice was Anderson, who became emotional during his acceptance speech, with his wife Nicholle looking on. Craig left the Senators several times during the season to be with his wife, who was undergoing cancer treatments.
