The Ottawa Food Bank made a big announcement on Thursday – they are introducing a Health Smart Initiative!
The organization will be investing $400,000 annually with the goal of providing healthier staples for those in need, with a special focus on proteins and milk.
Executive Director Michael Maidment was quoted as saying, “The primary focus of the Health Smart initiative is to make more nutritious food available to people who are assisted by an emergency food program in Ottawa. We understand that healthy nutritious meals are rare for families struggling with food insecurity – this program and this historic investment will change that for thousands of people every day”.
The food bank helps 41,540 people every month, and is always looking for donations and volunteers!
