Ottawa has had its fair share of food arguments, but usually it’s over where the best poutine is.
Kettleman’s Bagels decided to start a bit of beef with Mayor Jim Watson yesterday over his choice of bet against New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.
It is traditional for the mayors to make a playoff bets, the standard is an exchange of food as well as wearing the opposing team’s jersey to a council meeting. Ottawa’s USUAL bet is Beavertails, but this time our Mayor decided to go with Golden Palace egg rolls.
But, as Kettleman’s points out in their tweet, he is bringing “…egg rolls to a bagel fight.”
According to their statement;
“We love Golden Palace egg rolls. They’re a great business and they have the best egg rolls in the city, in our opinion. They’re also very popularly served at the Canadian Tire Centre during hockey games. We can appreciate that being the go-to to some degree here, however, a significant battle has been occurring for years that easily eclipses the playoff contest we’re in now. Montreal-Style vs. New York-Style Bagels“
