Many Canadians were overjoyed that CBC was bringing “Anne of Green Gables” back to the small screen.
(Even though, let’s face it, we all have our favourite adaptations already)
This time, the classic will also be introduced to Americans via Netflix! But, American Netflix took some…liberties with the poster, and Canadians are not happy.
Twitter was very quick to react to the changes, including a warmer light to slim the face, the removal of bags from under the actress’s eyes, and the reduction of her freckles (as someone with freckles, that one stings!).
The Anne of Green Gables poster controversy sums up my biggest issue with North American TV. Anne is described as 'homely' in the books.— Rose Moore (@RoseMooreWrites) April 8, 2017
Other users started chiming in saying they don’t mind the changes made to the poster, and some weighed in wondering why we even need another adaptation!
Can we please stop making adaptations of Anne of green gables it gets worse and worse as the years go by THE BOOK WAS GREAT WHY— Jadee Grace (@graceagss) April 8, 2017
To be honest, books aside, this is the version I remember from when I was a kid, so I see that argument for sure.
