The 10th annual Earth Hour is happening tonight!
Every year, many households commit to turning off as much electricity as they can for one hour to show their commitment to climate change action. As the World Wildlife Federation’s website says;
“As the hour without power highlights, electricity is essential to our lives. We need to produce that electricity from sources that don’t contribute to climate change or damage habitats.”
But what is there to do once the lights go out?? Here are 7 ideas!
Admittedly, it might be a bit hard to do this without the lights on. And candles are a bit of a fire hazard around all the paper books. Maybe get a battery powered book light? Is that cheating?
It will be a little late to start napping, but it will also be nice and dark.
3. Practice music!
Hear me out on this one – playing an instrument takes a lot of skill, but it takes even more skill to play it without looking. Plus, it would go well with…
4. A Candlelit Dinner!
The lights will already be out, you may as well take advantage of it! Of course you will want to cook the food in advance of the hour, or you could make a salad. But who wants ONLY salad for dinner?
5. Go Outside and Look at the Stars!
Maybe you’ve tried everything else. Maybe you finished your dinner super fast. What better activity to cap off earth hour than stargazing? We’re looking at clear skies and a low of -9 overnight, a perfect evening for it!
6. Build a Blanket Fort
I swear, I will never get too old to make an awesome pillow/blanket fort.
7. …You Know. 😉
You could poorly mime opening a bag of chips while your significant other demonstrates how to clean the inside of a small Nutella jar.
