If you think selfies are the ultimate expression of narcissism well, this pretty much confirms it.
A new study out of Germany found that people HATE looking at selfies- unless its their own! 82% say they would rather see, quote, “normal” photos on social media. But 77% regularly take and post their own selfies.
They also found there are three main types of selfies people share:
1. Self-promotion . . . which is basically like an advertisement and you showing off. This could be a picture showing off how good you look, or from your beach vacation, or maybe you with your new car.
2. Self-disclosure . . . where you share a selfie at a personal moment, usually to try to get sympathy. This could be a selfie at a place like the doctor’s office or stuck at an airport because your flight got cancelled.
3. And understatement . . . where you try to undersell yourself, but also as a subtle way of self-promotion. Like if you take a selfie where you’re making an ugly face, the REAL message is just how attractive you are when you don’t do that.
I should warn you that this study was only based on asking the Kardashian sisters, so take it with a grain of salt… Just kidding!
