If you drive along Baseline Road frequently, you know that it can be a real pain when it comes to traffic congestion. There is a proposal on the table at Ottawa City Hall which would give Baseline a huge overhaul.
The stretch of Baseline Road between Woodroffe Ave. (Baseline Station) and Heron Road would be widened. The median would be eliminated and a two-way transit corridor would be constructed for the buses to run down the middle of Baseline. This would separate OC Transpo buses and other vehicle traffic, which would help ease congestion, especially during rush hour.
But, there are some hurdles in this plan. One of them includes the demolition on of 15 homes along Baseline Road, so the road could be widened.
If this plan officially goes through, the end date of the Baseline transit corridor construction wouldn’t until 2031.
