The Women’s March on Washington has begun, with THOUSANDS (possibly tens of thousands) of people in attendance.
The march started as a grassroots effort in response to the political climate in the US, but it has gained momentum world wide, with sister marches happening across the globe.
Some participants are even flying in from across the world to participate in the Washington D.C. one!
Some Ottawans are heading down to Washington to show their support though, like City Councillor Catherine McKenney.
The Ottawa Sister March will begin at 11am at the Human Rights Monument (Elgin and Lisgar).
The march will be restricted to the sidewalks, but still expect some delays in the downtown area until the early afternoon.
If you’re curious what is happening down in Washington, they just got underway at 10am, they will rally until 1:15pm, at which point the march itself will begin. You can find all the details and a live stream HERE.
CNN is reporting that, at least according to metro ridership statistics, the numbers of the Women’s March have now EXCEEDED those of the Inauguration yesterday.
