If you search Ottawa on ANY image site, the first 20 photos usually involve the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill.
So what is going to happen when scaffolding goes up, and one of Ottawa’s most significant landmarks is covered for upwards of 15 years?
According to this Ottawa Citizen article, public works minister Judy Foote is considering the idea of a “tromp l’oeil covering,” an option that is frequently used in Europe. They would basically cover the scaffolding with a likeness of the original building that was being worked on. Not a bad idea at all, but also not the same as seeing the building up close!
Like this, but not quite as cool.
Ottawa Tourism says in the same article that they are considering everything from the National Gallery of Canada, to the Rideau Canal locks, to the river, to the Canal itself.
