I promise you, if you make it through the entire post, there is a puppy gif at the end.
It is the time of year where us total chickens put our fears aside, and try to enjoy being scared!
So how do we make the most of it? By watching the best of the best scary movies, of course!
THIS is your warning that these are legitimately scary movies, with scary trailers and clips. They are not approved for all ages, they are hardly even approved for all Eilishes.
1: The Conjuring
This one was released only 3 years ago, yet there have already been 2 spin offs, and 1 official sequel with another in the works. But the first is still seen by many as the pinnacle of modern-horror, and a clear pick for any scary movie list.
That being said, full disclosure, I never actually saw it. This preview was more than enough. So y’know, tread lightly.
2: Blair Witch Project
There are two kinds of people: those who are scared by Blair Witch, and those who laugh their way through it. Evidently, I am in the former group, this movie has always scared me. Laugh or scream, it is hard to argue the influence this movie has had, though. The classic found footage movie, it started an entire genre that gave us other fantastic scarefests like Paranormal Activity and REC.
3: Cabin in the Woods
Even the biggest chicken will LOVE this movie – the perfect mix of scary and hilarious, Joss Whedon knocks it out of the park with his horror movie that simultaneously mocks the genre.
4: Halloween (1978)
Sorry, Jason and Freddie fans, but “Halloween” is (in my opinion) the best of the “classic” slasher franchises. Between Jamie Lee Curtis earning her title as Scream Queen, and an eerie soundtrack that keeps you on edge the entire time, it is a perfect movie to celebrate the holiday it is named after. Warning: trailer is a redband, i.e. NSFW.
5: The Exorcist III
Ok, hear me out on this one. Undoubtedly, the original “Exorcist” is scarier when you look at it as a full movie. But the long term impact it had on me was nowhere NEAR the impact this one scene from the third movie of the franchise had. If you’ve seen it, you already know exactly the one I’m talking about. I am now in my twenties, and I still can’t bring myself to watch this full scene. I accidentally skipped to the scary part while I was embedding it, and I nearly cried.
So, spare yourself the full movie, but watch the five minute scene that in my mind merits being on this list. If you dare.
WARNING: This is the actual, full scene. It is from an R-rated movie, and has REPEATEDLY been called the scariest scene in movie history.
You made it through the post! YAY! Here are frolicking puppies.
