Michelle Obama just delivered the speech of a lifetime.
Presently, social media has been overcome with Trump supporters questioning the female right to vote (#repealthe19th).
Michelle speaks out, “The measure of any society is how it treats its women and girls”.
“They should disregard anyone who demeans or devalues them, and that they should make their voices heard in the world”.
She continues, “—Here I am, out on the campaign trail, in an election where we have consistently been hearing hurtful, hateful language, about women. Language that has been painful for so many of us, and not just as women, but as parents trying to protect our children and raise them to be caring, respectful adults.”
Michelle goes on to elude to Trump, “–And as citizens who think that our nations’ leaders should meet standards of basic human decency.”
Michelle continues by addressing Trump’s latest boasts regarding sexual assault, “Last week we saw this candidate actually bragging about sexually assaulting women. And I can’t believe that I am saying that a candidate for President of the United States has bragged about sexually assaulting women. I have to tell you that I can’t stop thinking about this. It has shaken me to my core in a way that I couldn’t have predicted.”
In this circus of an election, she says what we are all thinking, “So while I’d love nothing more than to pretend this isn’t happening and to come out here and do my regular campaign speech—it would be dishonest, and disingenuous to just move on to the next thing like this is just a bad dream.”
One of the most important issues with Trump’s comments, is his influence on the masses. Michelle speaks, “This was a powerful individual speaking freely and openly about predatory behaviour”.
Watch her full speech, it’s truly empowering.
Michelle reminds us, “This isn’t about politics, it’s about basic human decency”.
Michelle had countless zingers, including, “To dismiss this as everyday locker room talk is an insult to decent men everywhere”.
