Ottawa Fire Services could be visiting your home this week to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Firefighters will be canvasing several neighbourhoods throughout the city between 6 and 8 PM on weekdays and between 2 and 4 PM on weekends. You are not required to let them in if you don’t want to. These are courtesy calls to help homeowners with fire prevention methods.
Homeowners who need new or alarms will be given information on how to get them. Homeowners who do not have any working smoke alarms could have one installed for them, or be provided with new batteries, free of charge.
According to the Ontario Fire Code, homes must have a working smoke alarm on each floor and outside each sleeping area and carbon monoxide alarms are required outside sleeping areas if the home has an attached garage or a fuel fired appliance.
