The Little Library that could!
(Provided a couple of changes are made)
You may remember this blog from Mr. D a couple of days ago about a “little free library” in Hintonburg that Bylaw was saying needed to be removed.
Mimi and Tim Golding were surprised when they were asked to tear down the literary nook after an anonymous call was made to Bylaw about a violation of “property standards.” Their city councillor Jeff Leiper quickly got on their side, trying to help keep the cabinet going.
Good news has finally come, though. The Goldings now have until next Friday to remove the additional 2 cabinets that were added to the original structure, and secure the cabinet with a base on the ground.
The Ottawa Citizen’s Joanne Laucius reports here that while the library was the main problem with the property, “A bylaw officer also tromped around [Golding’s] property and noted, among other infractions, too many bicycles in the yard and the quibbled about the placement of a kayak.”
