Members of the black community in Ottawa are asking Ottawa police officers to leave their uniform at home if they plan on walking in the Capital Pride parade next month.
Leila Moumouni, a member of Black Diaspora, says police officers should come to the parade but only in their regular clothing because the police uniform is viewed as ‘Oppressive’.
“Be there as yourself, but you don’t need to be as a representation of an oppressive institution. It doesn’t need to be that. For me at least, I don’t understand the need for people who work in the police to be in uniform to celebrate Pride.”
REALLY? How about they walk TOGETHER to show solidarity between communities?
