On Saturday afternoon, the Toronto Raptors took on the Miami Heat in Game 3 of their second round NBA playoff series. The Raptors secured a 2 games to 1 lead in the series, with a huge 95-91 victory.
Before the game, Miami all-star guard Dwyane Wade was seen continue to take practice shots while the Canadian national anthem. Not for like a second or two, but for quite a long time, as seen in the video below. He did stop to join his teammates during ‘The Star Spangled Banner.’
Wade received lots of criticism from Raptors fans and media on both sides of the border about not stopping his warm-up during the anthem, including posts from Toronto Mayor John Tory and City Councillor Norm ‘6Dad’ Kelly. (See below)
On Sunday, Wade explained why continued shooting during ‘O Canada’, sighting the schedule changes for games during the playoff effect his warm-up routine.
Huh?? Really D-Wade?? Come on!!!
According to ESPN.com, Dwyane Wade will not be fined and the team ‘will make sure that pregame routines will not interfere with the anthems going forward.’ WOW!!!
You know what? That’s okay. That could fuel the Toronto Raptors a little bit more to knock the Heat out of the postseason. We’ll see. #WeTheNorth
