This week is National Rail Safety week. Railway companies and safety groups, including Operation Lifesaver are getting the word out about the staying safe around train tracks this week in person and online. But a picture of a railway crossing arm resting on top of an OC Transpo bus in Barrhaven on Monday has been making the rounds online. The approaching train made it through the crossing, just a few feet away from the bus.
This was shot near the scene of the fatal Via Train/OC Transpo collision 3 years ago.
The picture was taken by Kayla Wolfle.
OC Transpo is investigating the incident. The city of Otttawa and Via Rail are studying the possibilities of grade separation (constructing overpasses) at various crossings in Barrhaven. An overpass on Greenbank is currently under construction.
