Single in Ottawa and ready to mingle? But err, struggling to find other singles to mingle with? Let me help you, with a JUMP! Under the Sheets list of the best places in Ottawa to meet singles! I’ve tried to stay away from the cliché. Here are five places where I guarantee you’ll meet your next date – if you can work up the courage to approach them…
Forget Starbucks, this is Ottawa, and Bridgehead is our city’s hot coffee shop. Hit up your nearest Bridgehead, grab an organic latte, and park yourself in a comfy chair. Then offer to share your copy of the Ottawa Citizen with the cute redhead beside you, or ask him how he makes his fair trade coffee look so sexy.
2) Your campus library
If you’re a student, I’m pretty sure you won’t find another place in the city with hundreds of other young singles, desperate for distraction. Instead of studying in your room, head to your campus library and chat up someone who looks as bored by their books as you are. Pro-tip: don’t try this on the silent floor
3) Neighbourhood ice rinks
Here’s hoping they haven’t all melted by the time I publish this… This suggestion is mainly for the girls. You know walking by any outdoor rink (call it an ODR, and get major cool points) means passing amateur hockey players who make sweat look sexy. So grab some friends and strap on your skates. Show the guys you can shoot a puck, or, at least try. You’ll look cute either way…
4) Board game lounges
Monopolatte and the Loft are two café/bars in Ottawa that offer more entertainment than just food and drink. Plan a night with a group of single friends to get your game on – there’s no easier way to break the ice with a hot stranger than betting a beer that they can’t beat you at checkers, or recruiting them to your Pictionary team.
5) OC Transpo
It’s not glamourous, but it’s probably one of the only places you can sit beside a stranger without feeling creepy. Everyone hates commuting on public transit, but most of us have to do it at some point. Commiserate with a fellow traveller, and if you’re feeling each other, grab a coffee once you hop off the bus. Just hope it goes well, or else your daily commute just got a lot more awkward…
