Liberal MP for Ottawa-Vanier Mauril Bélanger dreamed of one day becoming Speaker of the House of Commons, and unfortunately his hopes were put to an end when he was diagnosed with ALS also known Lou Gehrig’s disease, and lost his ability to speak.
Yesterday he was given the chance to be The Speaker of the House for the day, and Justin Trudeau addressed the crowd.
My friend and colleague Mauril Bélanger, who is battling ALS, served as Speaker during Question Period today in the House. The disease has taken his ability to talk, but we all heard him loud and clear. Mauril, we salute your courage & determination.Posted by Justin Trudeau on Wednesday, March 9, 2016
